One of the things that impressed me greatly after 9/11 was the power of the American flag to unite, strengthen and symbolize our resilience in the face of great tragedy. I was also impressed with the outpouring of love and support from all over the world. But then, I couldn't help but think, what symbol do we have exclusively for world unity and harmony; one that represents compassion, tolerance, peace, justice and all that is best in the human spirit? A few days later, when I was deeply relaxed, this was the one and only image that came to me.

In the Waking Planet World Flag, our blue earth is glowing with life and vitality. The colored figures represent the beauty that is possible when people of different colors, tongues and beliefs come together in mutual respect, trust and support. The rainbow spectrum also stands for the integrated wholeness at the core of every individual. We access this inner peace by accepting and loving all aspects of our humanness.
The rising sun symbolizes the new millenium and the unlimited energy we are being given to be our best selves and to live our life's purpose.
The moon above reminds us that life is cyclical and that every crisis creates a new opportunity of equal intensity. It also connects us to our inner knowing and deepest truth. It whispers to us to acknowledge and act upon the love and wisdom of our highest selves in this precious lifetime.
